A little bit about me...

First tutu I madeI began making tutus when my daughter, who was six years old at the time, asked while at a local dance festival "Mum, can I have a tutu?" At this point, she had been dancing for three years, but had never done a ballet solo. I investigated the local dressmakers and found that it cost more than I was happy to pay to have a tutu made for a small child, so I decided to see if I could make one myself.

I had already been 'rumbled' at the dance school as someone who could sew, and had made character and national costumes, as well as leotards and lycra costumes for modern and tap dance. I started to research into how tutus are constructed, and started off with a couple of vintage patterns and a lot of experimentation. About four months after asking, my daughter danced her first ballet solo on stage in the first ever tutu I had made; she loved her tutu, and the positive comments I received encouraged me to do it again.

Since that first tutu I have made many, for dancers aged from five to seventeen years. My construction method and knowledge of the fabrics and processes involved has evolved during this time, and I have met lots of lovely people along the way. My aim is to make a tutu or costume that will help the dancer will go out on stage feeling a million dollars, and I believe that the best ways to do this are the confidence that comes from a good fit, and the dancer's involvement in the design of her one off creation.
