Dancewear Sizing Information
This is a guide to the typical measurements I require when making a tutu. Please ask me if you are unsure about anything as accurate measurements are vital for a good fit. I also need to know the dancer's age and height and, for senior girls, bra size
Tip - It helps to tie a string around the dancer's waist as a reference point - let it fall to her natural waistline.
A is the girth measurement. This gives me an overall body length, and is measured by placing one end of a tape measure on your dancer's shoulder, running it down the front of the body, through between her legs and up her back to the start point.
B is the half girth - this is the distance from the waist string at the centre front, through between the legs to the waist string at the centre back.
D is the chest measurement
F is the natural waist measurement - measure around the string, not where her jeans come up to!
G is the required basque length - from the waist to the upper hip.
H is the upper hip measurement - this is where the tutu skirt will come out from, and is typically 3-4" below the waistline
J is the hip measurement at the widest point - often at the top of the leotard legline
K is the side measurement, from the waist string right up into the armpit. The tutu bodice will not come up this high!
L is the back waist length, measured from the string around the waist up to the nape of the neck
